卷之一　楚國無以為寶，惟善以為寶\n言思君子溫如玉，美玉從來價獨隆。卻怪人間多兀突，只隨口舌鬥機鋒。\n這四句詩，是說那貴人不貴物的把柄，只為其中也有說得行得的，也有說得行不得的，也有不曾說出，一心要行的。大凡人生在世，居下位者，必擇良友，居上位者，必求賢臣。那些玩好嗜慾之物，一毫也不可沾染。若是略略分心去了，那裡還記得什麼好人歹人，昏懂懂過了一世，把君臣朋友都弄疏了。所以說道：\n從來玩物多喪志，不是人迷是自迷。\n若論珠玉幣帛等類，是不該在玩。好內算的，祭天地、祭宗廟，那一件不用著他？見天子、見國君，那一次不用著他？就是人家會大賓大客，遇大婚大喪，那一番不用著他？不比狗馬土木，可以喪身亡國。若是一心耽戀珠玉，只怕比狗馬土木差不多了。正是：\n人心若果多偏好，便是沉淪苦海中。\n有一等人，體備道德，遊心自然，把一切外物任其倘來倘去，這是最上乘的了；有一等人，苦心學問，敬士尊賢，又能禁嗜絕欲，清淨守正，這也還是上號的；又有一等人，內懷羶慕，口設雌黃，只將虛文誇耀於人，就是當時的人，也被他壓倒了，就是聖賢也取他這番說話說得有理，只是在他自己身上未免有些霸氣，難逃後世報應；又有一等人，心內只想功名，口中只念珍寶，或時聽著別人說話，也覺目睜口呆，只他念頭上決不肯放鬆，就是自家眼前不能得的，到子孫手裡也畢竟成就了，這也是堅心之報。正所謂：\n欲知後世因，今生作者是。欲知前世因，今生受者是。\n如今試說一個寶玉的故事。當初春秋週末時，列國中惟有晉楚最大，他國家既已強盛，君臣們未免就在玩好上去做些工夫。所以，晉有良璧，名為垂棘，楚有美玉，名為白珩；都是名聞諸侯，彼此交羨的。那時，兩國的臣子也都好著奇珍異寶，大家不以為怪，只是霸國之餘，外面又要說得冰清玉潔，不肯輕意應承，這便是他們的毛病了。且說楚昭王駕下一個臣子複姓王孫，名圉，人材聰俊，口舌便利。原是個讀書有學問的人，又兼越歷世事，把一個人竟造到絕頂伶俐的了。他也自恃才高，把人都不看在眼裡。所以，官居下大夫之職，常是鬱郁嘆息，不能稱心。有詩為證：\n碌碌蝸蠅滾滾塵，英豪矢志賦陽春。滿懷空有昂藏志，徒向風塵寄此身。\n他胸中也還服著兩個人，一個是觀射父，他在楚國現為上大夫，凡是一應四方往來的辭命，都是他來答應。你說那些訓辭怎麼只該是他一個包攬？也只為別人做來的，未免有些一差二誤，若是經繇觀射父的手筆，便覺妥貼停當。真個是胸中抱錦繡之奇，筆下具鬼神之妙。及至傳之四方，那一個不欽服他？故此，昭王極其信任，一日也少他不得；滿朝文武人人尊敬，個個拜服，就是王孫圉極道自己博雅的，將觀射父比一比看，自然有些不及他處。當時國人有謠曰：\n觀射父、觀射父，出言有威","is_preview":true,"preview_page_limit":10}
